Drink Recommendation:

If you enjoy Japanese beer like I do, this is the place to come to. The glasses and pitchers are very affordable and the best part is that you won’t need to be carded all the time because Yaitaimura Beer Garden has implemented wristbands. Many of the drinks pair well with the food items available at Shirokiya, so it isn’t hard to find something nice to eat and drink at a good price. I often opt for a cold glass of Kirin because I enjoy its smooth, full-bodied flavor. The after taste is not too strong and it is perfect for me to celebrate a long hard week and the upcoming weekend. Of course, Asahi is even better, but when it comes to beer I’m not so picky.  I believe there is a beer option for generally any beer lover since the Beer Garden offers PBR, Bud, Kirin, Heineken, and Asahi. So, it is a pretty affordable choice to make a trip here as long as you aren’t expecting a gastropub.

As for the wine, one may chose from either white or red wine. The selection of wines are limited- basically you have to choose from the colors. Sake is also offered at the Beer Garden (ie: Sho Chiku Bai), but I believe the sake selection is also limited, but there seem to be more choices than the wine selection.

Overall:

Beer lovers might enjoy this packed low budget haven. On the upper level of Shirokiya is the Yataimura Beer Garden with two (technically 3, but that’s on the other side of the store) seating areas for alcohol consumption. The seating areas do get busy around dinner time, but tend to open up more during the later part of the evening. It might be hard to find a place to sit for parties larger than 4 people because the staff has requested that seats and tables not be rearranged. Therefore, the seating options are usually for parties of 2, 4 and 6. Note that the Beer Garden has more than just beer available! Yes, for those who do not enjoy beer as much as others there are also other options like sake and wine. Since the location of the beer garden is on the upper floor with the food court, you can get your food first, find a seat, and then grab drinks like how me and my friends do. It might also be a good idea to appoint one seat saver while others grab their food. Shirokiya’s food options tend to change with varying promotions, but typically one can always find curry, ramen, udon, tonkatsu, and a bunch of other Japanese dishes like sushi and takoyaki. Generally there seems to be something for everyone to enjoy- that is, if you enjoy Japanese cuisine. On the other hand, Shirokiya does have a small selection of Korean foods too. Plus if you visit slightly after the dinner rush, you may find some bento plates to be 10% off.

In Short:

Yataimura Beer Garden is the place for beer lovers because of the nice prices. The only problem is finding a table for larger parties and figuring out what dish (out of many) to enjoy with your beer (or wine…or sake)!

  1. Beer Garden at Shirokiya is awesome! You have to get lucky with seating though.. there’s always a ton of people and security is pretty strict about moving chairs and tables around. The beer towers are cheap ($8-13 during happy hour) and you can get about 6 glasses worth of beer out of them.
